Here at CKC, Spring is one of our favorite times of the year! The weather is usually beautiful and even if it rains, it’s not the same as the seemingly aggressive rains of the winter. Spring rain is more calming, it seems to rinse away our stress. To experience this effect though, means you’ve got to get outdoors. Now, more than ever it’s difficult for people to leave the comfort of their homes. But what if you could make being outside, at home, fun?

For starters, any sort of game that includes physical activity will be a great start to getting people in the mood to be outside. Games like tag, or hide and seek, are easy to play and require little to no equipment, maybe you have a basketball hoop, a game of Horse would be perfect. This gets the blood flowing and gets you breathing through your nose so you can breathe in that refreshing spring air. The best part is that it’s not yet unbearably hot outside. If the sun is out, dip your toes in the pool or warm up the hot tub!

But with all this running around, everyone is going to be hungry! No doubt your best bet is to grill up some tasty treats. On the less healthy side, make a mixture of cinnamon, sugar, and honey, and coat fresh pineapple rings with the mixture. Throw them on the grill until you see the edges char or you see grill marks on each side. On the healthier side, vegetables like asparagus, squash, and eggplant, once seasoned can make a tasty and healthy treat. The best part about both options though is that you’re getting a nice mix of vitamins and minerals from both. They are all loaded with vitamins A, C, and B6, as well as the minerals calcium and magnesium. All of which are essential to great health.

If the day is done and you need a little more help relaxing, have no fear, we have the perfect solution for you. Inspired by South Texas and our love of strawberries and peaches, you can use this basic recipe to enjoy these great springtime sunsets with a taste of Texas.

You’ll need:

  • White Rum
    Strawberry Puree/Peach Juice
  • One whole strawberry or peach
  • Club Soda
  • Mint
  • Fresh Lime Juice

In an eight-ounce glass, muddle (click here to learn how to muddle) 1 tbsp lime juice, mint, one shot of rum, and 1 tbsp of peach juice/strawberry puree. Then cover and shake with ice, top off with club soda, garnish with a lime wedge, and either strawberry or peach wedge. Now you’ve got a Fredericksburg Peach Mojito or a Poteet Strawberry Mojito. All you have to do to make it kid-friendly is double up on the juice or puree and subtract the rum, then use a citrus soda to fill in the rest.

What a perfect ending to a perfect day in the backyard with your family!
