My wife and I had our ideas for what we wanted the house to be, CKC filled in some blanks where we trusted their expertise versus assuming we knew things we didn’t know. It worked out great as a dual collaboration. It is a process that has bumps and delays but we started the process during Covid and the supply chain fiasco. Whether you are bottom or top down, Chuck will work with you to end up with what you want in the design process. This was our first experience in building, I might change a few things if I did it again with what I know now, but I wouldn’t do it without CKC
I am writing to give a letter of recommendation for CKC Custom Homes and Chuck and Kristal Powell. CKC Custom Homes recently completed a major remodel of our 4800 square foot ranch house located on the Canyon Peaks Ranch in Kendall County.
The remodeling job was extensive, requiring my wife and I to move into a guesthouse we have on the ranch for several months. The remodel job included some structural modifications of the house, the construction of an outdoor kitchen/cabana around the swimming pool, new HVAC, plumbing, standing seam metal roof, flagstone around pool and patio, audio/visual, as well as a complete re-do of the entire interior of the house including tile, cabinets, carpet, paint and many other items.
I invite you to contact Chuck and Kristal to see pictures of the final result; the finished product is fantastic! A complex job, a large amount of pre-construction planning work was required which Chuck oversaw. He would take input from my wife and myself and create detailed drawings, which we would review and modify until we had a final product. Kristal was very helpful in the planning process as well, facilitating with selections on tile, paint, appliances, etc.
She had a great knack for understanding how we wanted the house to look, and translating that into results. Once the plans were finished, we received a bid in a straightforward and transparent fashion, which we then modified to meet our budget. The construction phase took approximately 6 months, starting with demolition and then moving into construction and finish work. We basically gutted the house and started almost from scratch. I have built a number of houses in the past and this project was more complicated than any of the new construction I have previously been associated with.
The project was finished within our budget and Chuck was very thorough in finishing up a number of small punch list items. Chuck left the job site clean and in as good a shape as he found it. As I mentioned above, the final product is great; a beautiful job. In summary, I would recommend CKC Custom Homes for almost any construction project. We are very happy with the job they did on our ranch house and would invite interested parties to review pictures of the final product at CKC Custom Home’s offices.
We have now been in our CKC built home for 3 years and continue to get great comments from our neighbors on how much they like the exterior of our home, and the very roomy feel of the interior.
We asked for “wow’ factor and got it for both the outside and the inside. Every room in the house has a custom ceiling treatment including high ceilings in the kid’s bedrooms. The floorplan is roomy, but also very efficient. Minimal wasted space.
Chuck is very good at pointing out items that bring value in both use in future resale. Example is our wider garage doors, and the brick and mortar fireplaces. 3 years into the home and we have only had service calls once on the air conditioner, and once on the garage. Both were fully covered by warranty.
I contracted CKC Custom Homes to construct my custom home in Comfort, Texas in 2008. I was very impressed with the process Chuck utilizes to let you know exactly where you are during construction. The budget was set and you knew your cost upfront and throughout the process.
Kristal was very efficient and effective in all of our choices during the deco process. Overall our experience was excellent with CKC Custom Homes. We finished on schedule, within budget, and the results were our beautiful quality built custom home. I would choose CKC again if I were to build custom.
